Artist Statement:
Before I saw Huang Yongping’s work, I didn't know why the relationship between myself and the trees felt close, like family members. In the process of rescuing trees, Huang Yongping retells the rights of trees, as well as the rights of things that are not accepted or protected by dominant ideologies. I realized that I like to observe trees not only as a link between people and nature, not only as a friendly exchange between different species but also as a way to know that everything needs to be respected at all times.
