Joseph Maida is an artist and writer, who has exhibited his work extensively in the United States, Europe, Japan and China in solo exhibitions at Daniel Cooney Fine Art, Wallspace, the Nikon Salons, Tokyo and Osaka, and 403 International Art Center, Wuhan. His work is frequently included in group exhibitions including shows at Yancey Richardson Gallery; the Queens Museum; Foam Fotografiemuseum, Amsterdam; the Reina Sofia Museum, Madrid; the Kunsthalle Wien; and the Witte de With, Rotterdam, among others. His commissioned work has appeared in The New York Times MagazineNew York Magazine, WWallpaper, and Vice, and his monographs New Natives and Born Free and Equal were published by L’Artiere in 2015 and COVOKE in 2018 respectively. His most recent series, Things R Queer is featured in Aperture’s book on the history of food photography Feast for the Eyes as well as the eponymous traveling exhibition. Maida earned his BA summa cum laude in architecture and art history from Columbia University and his MFA in photography from Yale University.
